Fox & Lillie Rural are pleased to announce the return of their highly regarded Wool Study Tours, offering woolgrowers the opportunity to visit Italy for the 2024 Wool Tour. Tour dates will have the group arrive in Rome on the 24th June, and depart back to Australia on the 07th July.
Fox & Lillie Rural’s Italian Wool Study Tour will visit a wide range of wool users where attendees will be able to really experience and appreciate the latest wool processing and trends in wool fabrics and knits. The mill visits will explore everything from carding wool users through to skirtings, and the best fleece and crossbred users, offering a great array of experiences.
The tour will also include a good mix of historic and tourist activities with guests being able to soak up the rich and vibrant culture that Italy has to offer and enjoy their delicious cuisine. Our tours are truly memorable and unique, supported by the networks of Fox & Lillie Rural’s parent company, Fox & Lillie export.
Some of the places the tour will take delegates include the following:
Rome – The “Eternal City” and often referred to as the cradle of Western Civilisation with history dating back 28 centuries. Technically founded in 753 BC but the site has artefacts going back many thousands of years before that. An enormous amount of history and so much of it easy to access on foot.
Florence – A built form landscape of magnificent architecture not rivalled by many places across the world. Seen as a symbol of the Renaissance period Florence defined and led this movement from the 15th century and some of the greatest exponents of this were Florentine’s own Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci. A flat and easy to navigate terrain. An opportunity here for woolgrowers to experience Pitti Filati, one of the premium yarn shows in Europe which has a very strong focus on wool and is held every season. Quite a number of Fox & Lillie wool consuming clients will be in attendance.
Tuscany – Here we will visit a hidden gem in the Tuscan Countryside.
Prato – A city synonymous with usage of wool. Records indicate that Prato prospered as a centre of wool manufacturing dating back to the 11th century. Prato has a history which shows it to be a true rag trade town, as it was one of the earliest places to recycle and re-use wool, dating back to the 19th century. Fox & Lillie export have long term agents in Prato and they will take us to some tremendous clients using carding wool, semi-worsted types and crossbred types and we look forward to gaining great insights into their yarns and fabrics.
Biella – The worsted industry where woven suiting cloth is the mainstay but an increasing amount of the best knitted fabrics are now part of the offering here. The Fox & Lillie agents in Biella will guide our visits in the area where we will focus on a diverse group of wool users to provide a complete picture of the Piedmont region.
Venice – The “City of Canals” where 417 bridges span 177 canals which criss-cross Venice and the famous gondolas traverse the waters making travel easy.
