Fox & Lillie Rural recently awarded Longerenong student, Sophie Balkin the 2022/2023 Fox & Lillie Rural Foundation scholarships.
Designed to help support young people who are looking to pursue a career in the agriculture industry with a focus on wool, the $5000 scholarship provide financial assistance towards tuition fees over the two-year course period at the college.
Fox & Lillie Rural has been offering student scholarships at Longerenong for over six years now as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to draw more young people to the wool industry.
Andrew Hendy, Fox & Lillie Rural’s local Wool Marketing Representative to the Horsham area commented on the impressive applications they received this year from Longerenong College students.
“We were really pleased to receive such strong applications for the scholarships this year. It’s exciting to see so many passionate young people focused on pursuing a career in the wool industry and we’re really proud to be playing our role to support that.”
As part of the scholarships, the students are also offered industry placement at the Fox & Lillie Group’s two main wool businesses. Both Fox & Lillie Export and Fox & Lillie Rural branches provide hands-on industry experience to students whilst expoing them to the various career pathways.
Fox & Lillie Rural was pleased to award Sophie Balkin the Fox & Lillie Rural scholarship. Sophie grew up on a sheep station in Moulamein, New South Wales and enrolled at Longerenong College for its hands-on industry training.
“I love the hands-on side of training at Longerenong College, from being able to get on a stand in the shed and shear a full sheep, to learning the ins and outs of every day farm life.”
When I saw the opportunity to apply for the Fox & Lillie scholarship through Longerenong College I thought there would be no better way to immerse myself in the wool industry than go through the process with Fox & Lillie.”
Donna Winfield Business Development Officer said “we are thrilled to again have Fox & Lillie Rural support our students through not only the financial support of the scholarship, but most importantly the opportunity Jonathan and James give our students through our Industry Placement Program. This program allows our students to explore the diverse career opportunities within the agricultural industries both in regional and metro regions.
