AWIS WOOL MARKET REVIEW
Week Ending 15 May 2020 (Week 46).
The AWEX EMI finished 9¢ higher (+0.8%) in Australian currency and 8¢ higher (+1.1%) in US currency in a better week at sales in Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle in Week 46. It was the first week in which the EMI had moved up since the second week in April.
23,371 bales were on offer nationally, compared with 25,338 bales last sale. 8.8% of the offering was passed in after 12.0% of the potential offering was withdrawn prior to sale. 21,315 bales were sold.
AWEX reports that the value of the wool sold was $27.7 million ($1,300 per bale), taking the season total to $1.807 billion ($1,654 per bale). The number of bales sold at auction this season is now 19.3% less than in the previous season.
