The AWEX EMI steadied when it finished 14¢ higher (+1.1%) in Australian currency and 12¢ higher (+1.5%) in US currency at sales in Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle in Week 41.
Sellers responded to the previous week’s market by withdrawing 24.7% of the potential offering prior to sale. This left 29,495 bales on offer nationally, compared with 37,713 bales last sale.
A further 13.3% of the offering was passed in, resulting in 25,581 bales sold, compared with 20,782 in the previous week.
AWEX reports that the value of the wool sold was $35.9 million ($1,403 per bale), taking the season total to $1.683 billion ($1,685 per bale). The number of bales sold at auction this season is now 18.4% less than in 2018/19.
